Voice of the Children
Our major fund-raiser, organized and completely run that evening by the students, is the Voice of the Children Dinner. Operating in an ‘American Idol’ format, this event is a showcase for talented vocalists in the Wichita area in grades 3-12. Finalists selected in preliminary competitions perform at the dinner in front of professional judges. The auditions for this years VOC competition will be held on January 31, 2019 at Calvary Church. Four vocalists from each age group will move on to the finals, which will take place on the night of March 2nd at Crestview Country Club. Judges will select a winner in three age categories as well as a Grand Prize winner.
Sponsorships and proceeds from silent and live auctions contribute the majority of the funds raised from this dinner. Guests comment repeatedly that the evening is delightful and they are so impressed that high school students have organized and run the event. The funds raised are used to buy gifts for It’s a Kids’ Christmas and to fulfill grants submitted by agencies that focus on the underprivileged children in the community.
It's a Kids Christmas
At Christmas, many organizations give toys to foster children but the children themselves have no money or means to give gifts to their biological and foster family members. To support them and allow them to share in the spirit of giving K4K puts on It’s a Kids’ Christmas.
To support this event K4K students purchase over thirteen hundred gifts for persons of all ages. The gifts are arranged on tables in a festive environment for the foster children to ‘shop’ for their loved ones. Each child leaves with a bag of wrapped gifts ready to be put under their tree. Photos and holiday activities allow the children to leave with special memories of the day.
Trunk or Treat
Other K4K activities during the year include Trunk or Treat which provides a safe environment for children to trick or treat and participate in games and face painting. K4K had over 100 families attend the event last year. Proceeds from the event were used to purchase gifts for It’s a Kids’ Christmas.
